In late 2019, Australia started a five month battle with bushfires. Mostly confined to the southeast coast of Australia, these fires burned thousands of hectares, disrupting animal ecosystems and human communities. Our hearts go out to all those who’ve lost loved ones, pets, livestock, businesses and vineyards.
The winemaking regions most affected were Adelaide, Kangaroo Island and Tumbarumba regions. From our portfolio, Vinteloper was hard hit. David Bowley lost 95% of their vineyard and their farm house. A heartbreaking moment for the team. The community has rallied around Vinteloper to help rebuild and support the winery in this time of great need. We were there in January. Spirits continue to improve and we look forward to what the future holds for this winery. As the harvest t-shirts read, “The house of Vinteloper will rise from these ashes.”
